Watch the Roast at 321 Motor Way

September 7, 2026Brolin Russell

People ask where we roast. In the cafe.

Santa Barbara Roasting Company has been on Motor Way since 1989. Locals call us RoCo. The original roaster from that year is still here, in the room with the cups, not in a warehouse and not behind a door you aren’t allowed through. If you want to watch the roast, you walk in.

That machine is the one. It's a Diedrich IR-40. All of our roasting happens on it. There is no secret machine in the back.

Monday through Friday, every week, we roast right there. By hand. Small batches. Science and art. That is the work.

When we say we roast every day, we mean those roast days: Monday through Friday. We do not roast on Saturday or Sunday. The cafe is still open on Sunday. You can still get a cup. You just will not see the drum turning. Come during the week if you want to watch.

We are at 321 Motor Way, Santa Barbara. Cafe hours are already on the door: Monday through Saturday, 6:30 in the morning to 6 at night. Sunday, 7 to 6.

Come in. Watch the roast. Then let the coffee do the talking.
